(RIO DE JANEIRO) — Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is blaming actor Leonardo DiCaprio for making donations to nonprofit organizations that he claims are behind a number of the fires within the Amazon rainforest.
Bolsonaro instructed supporters Friday: “DiCaprio is a cool man, isn’t he? Giving cash to set the Amazon on hearth.”
DiCaprio’s environmental group has pledged $5 million to assist shield the Amazon after fires destroyed massive elements of the rainforest in July and August.
Boslonaro’s feedback observe a police raid on the headquarters of two nonprofit teams within the Amazonian state of Para.
A number of volunteer firefighters, who deny wrongdoing, had been arrested and later launched. Native police say they’re being investigated for allegedly igniting fires to acquire funding by nonprofits.
